Meet Krispy Ice Cream

KC (a.k.a. Krispy Ice Cream)

Within the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2005, my Mom and I rescued a dog at the main entrance to several subdivisions, to include the subdivision where we live. She was in sad, sad, shape as she was starved to the point of seeing ribs, yet her teats were full of milk, very full of milk. She was a pitiful sight; how can an animal so emaciated have such bloated teats??? She was scared, gentle, and approachable. Since she was obviously a mom, we tried to find her puppies, even hoping the she would lead us to them, but we were unsuccessful in finding them. We guessed she was recently abandoned by herself, though we will never know. We took her home, and with the help of Alicia, a neighbor who spent some time as a vet assistant, we began to take care of her while going thru typical, yet futile steps to find the owner. A gentlemen homeowner just outside the subdivisions told me, "Nope - ain't my dog, but if she comes near my goats, I'll shoot her"! His goats were cute and charming for sure, but that's a bit harsh, to say the least.

When it was apparent the dog would be with us for at least a few days, we asked Connor to name her (he had just turned 3 at the time). Without hesitation he said, "Krispy Ice Cream". We laughed and that's what we called her. Alicia eventually adopted Krispy Ice Cream into her family, to include hubby and two children. Her name has been shortened to KC and she is a wonderful dog - playful, intelligent, and terrific with kids. The picture was taken early this year when KC, on her own, stopped by for a visit.

I have to agree that KC has turned out to be a blessing to our family (and the neighborhood at large)! She not only won me, the kids and my husband over, but she is now best friends with our latest rescue - Toby our orange tabby.
